Down to the wire

BOTH games were decided in the final over in the opening round of the Armidale Big Bash on Friday night.
In front of a good crowd at the New England Mutual Sportsground, Adda Constructions and Ace-Buttercup took initial honours in the short-form cricket matches.
Adda defeated Sportspower in a thriller that came down to the final ball.
Scores were tied with one delivery remaining, but Sportspower were unable to restrict their rivals from hitting the winning runs.
In-form young gun Michael Dawson proved the match-winner for Adda, scoring a half-century, while Matt Schaefer performed well with both bat and ball.
For Sportspower, Steve Haydon bowled exceptionally well.
There was another tense match between Ace-Buttercup and Moxon’s Bakery, with the latter unable to chase down the 124 required.
Moxon’s needed 14 off the last over, but lost three wickets to fall short by six runs.
Ace-Buttercup skipper Luke Brown bowled exceptionally for the winning side, as did young spinner Harrison King, who restricted Moxon’s batting.
The second round of play continues this Friday night, with Sportspower and Moxon’s Bakery doing battle at 5.30pm, and Adda Constructions and Ace-Buttercup to play the late match at 8pm.
