ARMIDALE’S under-14 representative side fell at the last hurdle against a formidable Inverell XI in the final of the Northern Inland junior cricket competition.
Inverell’s Jaiden Tasker restricted Armidale’s batting line-up in his three spells with the ball, conceding just 17 runs from his 10 overs and taking two wickets in the process.
Matt Campion and Alex White also took two wickets each as the home side struggled to establish any significant batting partnerships at Lambert Park.
Regular wickets fell as Armidale scrambled to a final score of 109 with Henry Sindel (18), Brendan Knowles (16) and Kieran Dennis (10) the only batsmen to reach double figures.
In contrast, Armidale’s bowlers bowled tightly and effectively constricted Inverell’s scoring rate.
However, the visitors batted patiently and lost just two wickets in the run chase.
Armidale’s Kieran Dennis bowled economically to take 1/4 off five overs, while BJ Cameron snatched the only other Inverell wicket to fall.
Armidale’s representative players will now shift their focus as they come up against each other for their respective clubs in the race to the Armidale District Cricket Association finals in three weeks’ time.
