ARMIDALE Urban Rivercare Group is running a tree planting event at Dumaresq Creek on Sunday.
The group will be planting at Elizabeth Park on the northern bank of the creek from 8.30am.
Car parking is available near St Peter’s Preschool in O’Dell Street, then walk across the footbridge on the bike track.
Volunteers are welcome to enjoy refreshments and lunch provided by Armidale Dumaresq Lions for a gold coin donation. Wear long sleeves and long pants; and bring a hat, gloves and sunscreen.
Bright ideas
THE Armidale Interagency and Sustainable Living Armidale (SLA) is launching its exciting web-based project Light Bulb Moments.
The welfare agency resource guide and agency collaboration grew out of awareness and concern that individuals and families, particularly those on low incomes, were having great difficulty paying their energy bills.
The decision to make a web-based resource was in recognition that it would provide maximum access across the community and region. Visit www.slaati.org to see the final product.
The official launch will be held at 11.30am at Kent House next Wednesday. Before the launch there will also be a two-hour workshop for community service providers to learn how to use the resource. If you wish to attend the workshop, contact Debra Mill on 0468 379 370.
Track feral pests
AS MUCH of northern NSW battles with dry conditions, the impact of pest animals is adding another stress to those on the land.
New England North West Landcare’s project officer Bec Ballard said pest animals impacted more than just the environment and agricultural production.
“A major impact of pest animals that is often overlooked is the stress they cause communities,” she said.
“Predation of livestock or the destruction of crops and pastures has a major impact on families.”
A field trip to help identify signs of pest animals and bait placement will be run at “Lynoch”, 545 Lynoch Rd, Armidale next Tuesday from 8.30am-1pm.
Tracks, scats and other signs will also be looked at for multiple species, including feral pigs, wild dogs, foxes and feral cats.
