THE celebrations will continue for Armidale seniors during March with Armidale Dumaresq Council organising a bumper week of activities from Saturday, recognising the important contribution our seniors make to the community.
NSW Seniors Week Ambassador for Armidale Steve Widders is encouraging all of Armidale’s older residents to take part in the many and varied activities planned.
“Age adds value,” Mr Widders said.
“I think it is so important that our seniors in the community are heard.
“I encourage all of our older residents to tell their life stories so that their families, especially the younger generations can hear about the experiences of the past.”
To facilitate and encourage the telling of these stories Armidale Dumaresq Council has organised a special event in the Armidale Town Hall during NSW Seniors Week on Wednesday, 19 March from 10am to 2pm called ’Living Books’.
Eight highly regarded local identities in the community along with members of U3A’s Tuesday Talks will talk about their lives and experiences.
People will have the opportunity to listen and ask questions during their presentations that will be videoed and later edited to produce a DVD that will be available from the library.
Local identities include: Jim McRae, Thelma McCarthy, Jean Dawson, Judith Ross-Smith, Janet Ozer, Brenda Woodward, Brian Leslie, Lois Yates.
