ARMIDALE Dumaresq Council will spend $150,000 on floodplain management after receiving a grant from the State Government.
Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall made the $100,000 announcement with mayor Laurie Bishop on the banks of Dumaresq Creek on Monday.
Mr Marshall said the money would be used to undertake an overland flowpath study for the urban area of Armidale.
“It has been noted that that in a major flooding event in Armidale there are significant risks to people and property due the lack of adequate overland flowpaths,” Mr Marshall said.
“This study will identify the magnitude of the overland flows and the paths they will take in a major flooding event. This will assist Council to consider options to reduce flood risks.”
Cr Bishop said the council would contribute $50,000 on a 2:1 ratio promised when staff applied for funding.
