STUDENTS from PLC Armidale visited NSW Parliament House last week as part of a Sydney excursion.
Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall hosted the Parliamentary visit and took the Years 5 and 6 students into the Legislative Assembly where they sat in the Speaker’s Chair and Members’ benches.
“The students got involved in some Question Time role play, acting out the roles of backbench government and opposite MPs, Ministers and of course, the Speaker,” Mr Marshall said.
“It was part of a tour of Parliament House and gave them a good idea of what it is like to be an MP arguing a case on the floor.”
The students also toured through the Legislative Council to learn about its role and functions.
Mr Marshall said the girls were “excellent ambassadors for their school and families and it was a real pleasure to host them in the oldest Parliament in Australia”.
“Who knows, it might have given some of them a taste for politics and community representation in the future.”
