PETER Munsie says the feedback from Sunday’s meeting suggests harness racing is back in Armidale and here to stay.
The Armidale Harness Racing Club president said he was pleased to see a good crowd for the return of pacing to the city.
“You never know how much of a crowd you are going to get, but this is a good start,” he said.
“We didn’t have any money in the kitty when we got back together, so things like advertising and promotion is difficult.
“We have relied on you (Armidale Independent), the radio and word of mouth to let people know.”
Munsie was visibly anxious before the first race, but by the time a few events had been run and won, he was more settled.
“I just want everything to go well,” he said.
And it did.
Reports from trainers and drivers were positive, while Harness Racing NSW’s steward-in- charge Greg Westwood said there were no hiccups at the first meeting staged in Armidale since April 2001.
All the action returns to the track this Sunday for the running of the $10,000 Armidale Pacing Cup.
