TIMEKEEPERS had to have a second glance at the stopwatch on Sunday as Colonial Rule scorched the Armidale Paceway to set a track record.
The Newcastle pacer stopped the clock in 1:58.3 in the $10,000 Carnival of Cups Final (1690m), taking more than two seconds off the previous record, set the previous Sunday.
Colonial Rule’s blistering run paid dividends for trainer/driver James Kennedy, who had no luck with the four-year-old entire the week prior when fourth in a heat.
It also broke a lengthy drought for the horse, who had only one won race previously in his career, an R0 Pace event at Tamworth in April last year. Colonial Rule paid $8.40 on the NSW TAB.
