ARMIDALE High Rollers were no match for their coastal rivals in the inaugural North Coast Derby Coalition tournament on the weekend.
The rookie roller derby team’s lack of experience proved the difference as their more seasoned opponents flexed their muscle in Port Macquarie.
Armidale’s closest match was its first against Coffs Coast Derby Dolls.
The High Rollers were beaten 171-123 in a tough contest.
Armidale’s Alinta Merrotsy said Coffs’ jammers made some key plays to win the match.
“The difference was made up in a couple of power jams or when our jammer got pounded,” she said. “Otherwise it was very even.”
Armidale backed up on Saturday against Tweed Valley before playing Northern Rivers on Sunday.
The latter inflicted plenty of pain on the High Rollers as Northern Rivers boasted class on every line.
The second weekend of the North Coast Derby Coalition will be played next month in Byron Bay.
