A BAND of students from the New England Girls School are preparing to represent their school and region at the Royal Easter Show in Sydney.
The NEGS Equestrian Centre will watch on with pride as their riders hope to continue their impressive trajectory with Kate Cruickshank selected to represent Pony Club Zone 5.
She will have support from up-and-coming rider Laura Strelitz, who will be competing in the Australian stock horse classes.
In another first, Sophie Watson will represent the New England region in the fleece and wool judging.
The event will serve another, more serious purpose with the NEGS Cattle Club students using the trip to raise funds for The Butterfly Foundation, a national charity supporting programs for people suffering from eating disorders.
The girls will auction off two red angus steers donated by the Robertson family.
Their daughter Phoebe Robertson, a former NEGS student, has been battling an eating disorder for almost three years.
“We have seen first-hand the struggle rural public hospitals have in supporting this illness and know that there is a need for more regional support in all aspects of this disease,” Phoebe’s mother Wendy Robertson said.
