A FORMAL link between the University of New England and Parramatta City Council was recognised on Monday, with the two organisations signing a memorandum of understanding.
UNE has a strong presence in western Sydney, with a growing number of Parramatta residents choosing to study through UNE.
The memorandum, signed by interim vice chancellor Annabelle Duncan and Parramatta Lord Mayor John Chedid, covered three key strategic priorities for the partnership to focus on – innovation, talent development and community leadership.
Professor Duncan said she welcomed the opportunity to formalise the friendship between the university and Parramatta, and the memorandum paved the way for greater co-operation in the future.
“Education is the key to the advancement of society,” she said.
“At UNE we recognise that in this day and age, people need to balance their education with family, work, a social life, sport, and any number of other commitments.
“More than 2500 students from the greater western Sydney region have recognised UNE as one of Australia’s leading online universities by choosing to study with us by distance education in vital sectors such as education, health, business, law and psychology.”
