NORTHERN Tablelands-based state MPs Adam Marshall and Scot MacDonald have welcomed new Premier Mike Baird to the chair following the resignation of Barry O’Farrell.
Mr Marshall said he was confident the team of Mr Baird and his Liberal Party deputy Gladys Berejiklian was a good move for NSW.
“I congratulate Mike on his successful selection as the Premier of NSW and the leader of the NSW Liberal Party,” he said.
“I have a very good working relationship with both Mike and Gladys and I look forward to continuing that relationship in their new roles to achieve good outcomes for the Northern Tablelands electorate.
“Sudden though this change has been, it’s a good opportunity to take stock and have a good look at where the government wants to head over the next 11 months.”
Mr Marshall said that with the leadership issue now resolved quickly, it was time to get back to the important business of governing and delivering.
“Country people have a lot of issues that we need to be fighting hard for, so I’m pleased we can now get on with this important work,” he said.
“I will be issuing an invitation to the new Premier to visit the Northern Tablelands soon.”
Mr MacDonald, a Liberal MLC based in Guyra, said he thought Mr Baird was the right man to lead the party to victory at next year’s state election.
“(He) has a proven record in turning round the state’s finances. Deputy Leader Gladys Berejiklian has done more in the past three years than Labor in their 16 years managing the transport portfolio,” he said.
“We have a fresh, energetic leadership team to take the Coalition up to the 2015 election.
“I am looking forward to the next 11 months and working with Premier Baird to make NSW number one.”
