POULTRY pundits from Armidale and Uralla have taken home a swag of ribbons from the Royal Easter Show in Sydney.
The region has always been a hotspot for producing the best chooks, highlighted by the fact Uralla’s Graham Sharpe is Head of Poultry at the show.
Mr Sharpe also cleaned up one award, taking honours for champion bantam in the old English game section for brown or red.
Uralla’s Geoff Hine won champion black leghorn bantam and said it was reward for hard work.
“It’s still just a hobby for me,” he said.
“I’ve been doing it for 42 years now and I still enjoy it.”
Mr Hine has about 300 chickens on his property on Thunderbolt’s Way.
Fellow Uralla resident Bros Nordstrom and Geoff Potts also came home from Sydney as winners, while Armidale’s Chris Hardman’s orpingtons won him several gongs.
