Kyle flying high

His grandfather George had a Boyds Bay based Seaplane business and now Kyle Beattie has moved a step closer to his dream of joining the airforce.
Currently in Year 12 at Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School, Kyle, 17 has been awarded an education award from the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA).
The award, presented to him by Captain Simon Boxsell (Australian Regular Army)included a new laptop and certificate and moves him a step closer to his dream of studying Aeronautical Engineering at ADFA in Canberra.
“I’ve always been interested in planes,” he said.
And he’s not waiting until next year and is already studying to become a commercial pilot – starting back in January. He already has 14 flying hours and is looking forward to taking his first solo flight as soon as he can.
So is he excited about the ADFA award?
“Oh yes, it’s pretty exciting,” he said.
“I’ve applied for the pilot and aeronautical engineering course.”
The award recognises his level of commitment and academic achievement.
