ARMIDALE’S football clubs flexed their muscle in the Northern Inland Premier League on Saturday, with all four clubs scoring wins.
As the two conferences crossed over, South Armidale hammered Moree 10-1 at the Sportsground, East Armidale pipped Gunnedah 4-3 on the Hawks’ patch, while Demon Knights thrashed Narrabri/Wee Waa 7-0 at Rologas.
But the most significant win was North Armidale’s 5-0 triumph over North Companions in Tamworth.
It was a victory of giant proportions as the Redmen sent a message to the competition.
North Armidale stalwart Willow Grieves turned back the clock with a brace, while Declan Druitt, Andrew McGann and Hayden Freeman also stood out.
Redmen goalkeeper Riley Hopwood also played well to keep a clean sheet.
North Companions were previously undefeated ahead of Saturday’s drubbing.
While North Armidale is not on top of the northern conference table – a draw against Demon Knights is the side’s only blemish – the Redmen are certainly the team to beat.
East Armidale, with three wins and a loss, are the leaders of the pack and look well on track to make the finals after a season to forget in 2013, where the side finished on the bottom of the ladder.
