Saturdays squally weather did not take the shine off the many trophies that were handed out to the Casuarina Beach Rugby Union players, to celebrate the end of the 2011 Season.
The day was well attended by both players and their families with the boys having a game of touch in the sunshine early in the day, then doing mud slides in the puddles after torrential afternoon showers!
One of the many highlights of the day was the presentation of Life Membership to recently selected Australian Schoolboy and former Casuarina player Campbell Wakely.
Wakely, a former Kingscliff High Student, began his rugby career as a five-year-old with theĀ Casuarina Beach Rugby Club before he began boarding at The Southport School at the start of Year 11 and now captains the first 15 rugby side.
His message of “hard work pays off” was very clear to the many aspiring future Wallabies in the junior teams.
It is believed he is the first Tweed boy to make the Australian Schoolboys rugby side with the team playing in England late August or early September, and will then be re-chosen for the New Zealand clash.
