More than 300 people turned out to honour the achievements of local kids at the second annual Tweed Shire Kids in Community (KIC) Awards held at Twin Towns last week.
Well over 50 nominations were received for this year’s awards, with 11 recipients honoured on the night.
Event spokesman Mark Madden of the Tweed Heads PCYC said it had been a very successful event.
“It is a great event that highlights the amazing achievements that some of the region’s kids have made,” he said.
KIC Inc has been operating very successfully in the Northern NSW area for the past 11 years and the Lismore committee were keen to expand the scheme. It has been enthusiastically embraced in the Tweed.
The evening included several guest speakers and entertainment by local kids, including a didgeridoo performance from Dylan Brown and indigenous dancing by Zhi Shilling, both of Pottsville Primary with Sophie McMahon, Joe Moss and Jesse Aviu of Kingscliff High also performing.
