Pottsville’s Janice Edwards was the lucky winner of the Tweed River Art Gallery’s Archibald Prize exhibit competition, held throughout the exhibition.
Janice received a $500 ANZ Visa Debit Card after her name was drawn from the 4313 votes cast while this year’s Archibald finalists were on display on the Tweed.
Visitors to the incredibly popular exhibition were asked to vote for their favourite painting in the exhibition with a name, then drawn out from all of the eligible votes. And the favourite painting? Well that went to Adam Chang’s portrait of John Coetzee.
ANZ is the principal sponsor of the Archibald Prize 2011 and tour. Visitors to each regional gallery on the tour are invited and encouraged to register their vote in a People’s Choice Award.
Tweed River Art Gallery Director Susi Muddiman said the Archibald exhibition had been a big hit with gallery patrons.
“This exhibition has had a terrific impact on the Gallery,” she said.
“Visitor numbers have far exceeded our expectations. I am delighted that so many visitors from far and wide have travelled to the Tweed River Art Gallery to view the exhibition and to see our beautiful Gallery.
“The Gallery would like to take this opportunity to extend our thanks to volunteer Betty Hutchinson, who kindly donated an enormous amount of her time to process each of the 4313 votes.
“Betty has been an invaluable support to the Gallery staff, and she is one of the many Gallery volunteers and Friends who have generously given numerous hours of their time during this busy period. As anyone who visited the Archibald Prize 2011 would know, we couldn’t have coped without them. I can’t name them all – but I would certainly like to express my sincere gratitude for their help.”
The exhibition ended last Sunday.
