Bogangar’s Brody is a champion

Bogangar Public’s Brody Pullinger beat a tough field to take out the regional spelling title in the senior division at Centaur Public School last week.
Brody knocked out his competitors in round five making him the senior spelling champion with Kacey Watson from Urbenville Public runner up.
Welcoming the best speller’s in the district to the 2011 Premier’s Regional Spelling Bee yesterday, Centaur primary Principal Darren Scott congratulated the 71 finalists stating they were winners already.
Junior winner, Nathaniel Jensen from Byron Bay Public School took out the junior section with the word porpoise. His chuffed mum said “Nathaniel is my youngest of three. He plays football so I told him to treat each word as he would the football- see the ball and go after it, see the word and master it!”
Runner up Ashlee Gluyas from Mullumbimby Public School said she was proud to be the second best speller on the coast
Brody and Nathaniel will now go on to compete at the State Finals to be held on Wednesday, November 16 at the Eugene Goossens Hall, ABC Centre, Sydney.
Premier Barry O’Farrell said the Premier’s Spelling Bee provides an opportunity for students from across New South Wales to improve their Literacy, develop life-long skills and foster a love for words.
“For those who master spelling at an early age, the value of accuracy and communication becomes clear and the rewards are immediate and lasting. I am both pleased and amazed at some of the words our students are able to master.”
