The Sands winner of best gaming venue

Tweed-Gold Coast landmark, the Coolangatta Sands Hotel, has been voted Best Gaming Venue at the 2011 Australian Liquor Industry Awards (ALIA).
“I am so proud of the venue and our team. We do our best to ensure our patrons feel comfortable, welcome and safe,” Coolangatta Sands Hotel Manager Chris Lappan said.
“We have put a lot of effort into creating a gaming venue that caters to everyone’s needs – featuring tray service, an external smoking area, the latest electronic gaming machines and fantastic customer service.”
After extensive renovations over the past few years, the Coolangatta Sands is re-establishing its pride of place in the community with a focus on creating a safe and friendly environment with something to offer everyone.
The Australian Liquor Industry Awards are held annually and celebrate the best venues, liquor brands and marketing in the country, across fifty-one categories.
Nominations for the categories are a combination of Neilsen POS data for the off-premise and open entry submissions for on-premise, which were provided by the eight thousand-odd votes received throughout August.
To qualify to be nominated for the Best Gaming Venue award, the venue must offer both poker machines and an internal TAB.
“To win the Best Gaming Venue Award means so much to my staff and me,” Mr Lappan said.
“To be nominated by the general public and to then be supported by the expert judging panel is a major boost to both the venue and the Taphouse Group. We are very grateful for the support and loyalty we receive from our patrons – because in the end, they are why we are here!”
This was the eighteenth year of the ALIA awards, which are recognised as the most comprehensive and definitive acknowledgements of the incredibly diverse hospitality industry.
