To say Leanne McMahon and the gang at Epic Skate, South Tweed love Halloween would be something of an understatement.
The crew have spent months preparing for their two big Halloween parties, one for teenagers on the Friday night and another for families on the Saturday afternoon, while staff member Christine Booker put in two days carving and preparing the pumpkins for the big night this year.
Over the Halloween period the skate rink is transformed into a haunted house while the staff transform themselves into many and varied creatures and creations – with some of the costumes taking quite some time to put on.
So when Leanne discovered that her school reunion was the same night as the Halloween party she had two choices – pick something easy that she could take off after the party or go with her original plan and then turn up to her reunion in costume. She chose the costume option.
“No one could pick who we were,”she laughed under the blue make-up of her Avatar costume.
“My friend Jacquie was dressed as a witch and we went in separately. It wasn’t until people saw us talking that they realised who we are.
“We ended up going to the Coolie Hotel after the reunion – still dressed in our costumes.
“We had people lining up to have their pictures taken with us. I bet I turned up on a lot of facebook sites on Saturday morning,” she giggled.
