Friday is not usually considered the most popular day of the week to get married, however that was the case last week.
Mind you, it’s not very often that the 11-11-11 comes along (once every 100 years to be exact) and so couples all around the world were keen to take advantage of the auspicious date.
Birth, Deaths and Marriages in NSW recorded more than 40 weddings in Sydney alone.
And it wasn’t just the big capital cities either – brides here on the Coast were pretty keen to have the unique date as their wedding day.
“I picked it ages ago, at least a year ago,” Renee Ellison said before her wedding on Friday.
Renee, daughter of Mark and Trish Ellison, grew up in Kingscliff and chose the southern side of the Cudgen Creek for her 11-11-11 wedding to Canadian fiancé John Cadman.
The pair were married under a bamboo gazebo, made by Renee’s dad and family, at 3pm in front of guests from along the Tweed Coast, Brisbane, Tasmania and the Northern Hemisphere.
Renee said it just seemed like the perfect date to get married.
“You know that old wives tale, that if you see the clock at 11.11 you should make a wish?” she asked.
“I always make a wish,” she laughed.
John and Renee, who had their reception at Cudgen Leagues Club, will make their home in Kingscliff with their young daughter Elsie.
