Fall to ‘The Otchkies’ trip ba-by – hail a gang of four bowl-slicked drapes on the forefront of the newest poetic movement of musical psychedelia.
Hailing from their commune in Stokers Siding, The Otchkies bring to life hip pop oriental psychedelic blues.
Elijah Shadows, Jack Buxton, Lazerus Otchkie and Angus Russell got together in sweet sunny January of 2011 on the macadamia farm and formed a band.
They gathered under the wilful influence of late 1960 or so psychedelic blues magicians:The Fugs, Jefferson Airplane, LOVE, The Clockwork Orange, William Penn & His Pals, The 13th Floor Elevators, Manzarek, The Seeds, Country Joe & The Fish, Gracey’ Slick & The Great Society, The Dovers, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Deep, Jefferson Handkerchief, Human Expression, Dirty Mac.
Elijah, Angus and Lazerus had just returned from their quest for enlightenment to Ceylon – Panjanaiii’s pearl of the Indian Ocean. It was there in the Kandy mountainous fog-dawn skies of NOW that ‘The Otchkies’ came to be so with the hummmm of sitar in the hot air, sari silk gowns and the inner circle smoke haze.
Jack Buxton blew in from Santa Barbara art school and the band line-up was completed.
The Otchkies are a sojourn travel through the sound galleries of the mind – a musical performance spectacle of colour and oil-light, the flower children of NOW.
And if you want to know just what all that means – then head to the Sheoak Shack on Sunday afternoon.
