The generous New England and North West NSW spirit enhances independence for people with impaired vision.
With the 2010-11 financial year behind us, I would like to publicly thank our loyal supporters across the New England and North West NSW for their amazing generosity during this challenging time.
As we receive no government funding, it’s this incredible Australian spirit of giving that is the lifeblood of our organisation.
Without ongoing support from the public, we would not be able to deliver our life-changing work to people who are blind or vision impaired.
This work, which is provided free of charge, sees our qualified instructors train people to get around safely and independently using guide dogs, long “guide” canes and electronic travel devices like talking GPS.
Over the past year, strong community support from the region has enabled us to again increase the provision of these services in line with the growing incidence of vision loss.
During this time, our local instructors responded to over 300 requests for assistance from residents across the New England and North West NSW who have impaired vision, helping them to meet their mobility goals.
Again, on behalf of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT and the people who benefit from our services, I would like to thank you sincerely for your continued support.
Graeme White,
CEO, Guide Dogs NSW/ACT
