Kingscliff Carols on track

Preparations are well underway for this year’s Kingscliff Carols By Candlelight.
Organisers had been concerned that the usual venue, Lion’s Park, just south of the Cudgen Headland surf club, might not be able to host this year’s titles.
But organiser Gillian Haylar said it would be business as usual for the carols, thanks to the efforts of the Tweed Shire Council.
“We have to say a huge thank you to the council,” she said, checking out the work at Lion’s Park this week.
“They have done and amazing job and the park should look beautiful by carols night on December 15.
“And our beach is coming back too – it’s just perfect.”
Gillian said organisers had been concerned as they watched erosion eat into Lion’s Park and the surrounding beach area.
But, as she watched council workers replant Pandanus trees, put the finishing touches to rock walls and plant turf, Gillian couldn’t hide her excitement.
“By the time they put the fence up and finish things off, it will be wonderful,” she said.
This year’s line-up includes Grace Steel, (Kingscliff High School student), John Bennett and Mark Meeuwssen (making their debut performances), Jean Stone, Michelle Cook, Peter Tanna, Andrea Szabo and of course, Paul Ensbey and Gillian Haylar.
And not to be forgotten, the children from the Cudgen and Kingscliff Public Schools, and St Anthony’s, Kingscliff –  AND SANTA!
Jed and Jean Stone and ‘Rabbit’ Robinson make up the band.
