‘Giggle Ball’ is on again

Camp Quality’s ‘Giggle Ball’ was so successful last year, it’s back by popular demand.
What is fast becoming a ‘must do’ on the Armidale social calendar, the Camp Quality Giggle Ball raises necessary funds to support children living with cancer, and their families.
“The Giggle Ball is an opportunity for the Armidale community to live and breathe Camp Quality’s motto that ‘Laughter is the Best Medicine’,” Giggle Ball organiser and local Camp Quality volunteer Michelle Fittler said.
“The Giggle Ball lives up to its name. You are guaranteed of having lots of fun and plenty of laughs.” Ms Fittler says that, with close to 20 local families involved with Camp Quality, there is a real need in our community.
“Through my work as a volunteer I see the real impact that having a child with cancer can have on a family.
“The child has to spend month upon month receiving treatment, one or both parents have to give up work, resulting in a huge financial strain.
“Parental attention will often shift to the child receiving treatment, so siblings can feel isolated, and the strain of trying to maintain a relationship during this time is enormous, with one in three marriages breaking down,” said Ms Fittler.
Last year The Giggle Ball raised $24,000 which helped support 10 families for the year. Ms Fittler says, “We have 20 families here in Armidale, so let’s aim high and see if we can raise enough money to support every one of those families for 12 months.
“We are really fortunate to have some local businesses who are regular supporters of Camp Quality. Phil and his team at the Bowling Club do a wonderful job each year and are there again for us this year.
“Last year’s sponsors Elders Insurance and Community Mutual have also returned. Without their support, and the support of many other local businesses, the Giggle Ball wouldn’t be the great event that it is.”
The Giggle Ball is being held at the Armidale Bowling Club on Saturday, September 10. Tickets are $65, which includes a three-course meal and the sounds of ‘Dirty Jeans’. Tickets go on sale from August 1. Contact the Armidale Bowling Club on 6772 5666 to make a booking.
