The Lions Club of Cabarita Beach Pottsville Beach hosted their annual Community Christmas Party on Saturday, December 10, in the heart of Cabarita Beach/Bogangar.
The late afternoon event was attended by hundreds of people who were entertained by Bogangar Public School Choir, The Paul Ensby Duo, Annette Hope, Lyndsay Moynham and a select group of musical acts who are regulars at Marty’s at Cabarita.
There was all sorts of fun things for the children including circus equipment from Hoop La Circus and a jumping castle from Jumping Jays at Burleigh.
There was also Tug-O-War, organised for Cabarita Beach Surf Club with the best team winning an extra bag of lollies from Santa.
The Cabarita Beach Pottsville Beach Leos Club assisted with face painting and Jumping Castle duties and the Cabarita Youth Service helped with raffles and other duties
The Bogangar Public School P & C Association were also involved with gear transport and putting up tents.
Lions would also like to thank Mr Bob Shackell and his team from Shackell’s Transport for the provision of his trucks over the many years- without using his trucks as a stage they would never have been able to raise the money for worthy causes as we have done.
The Lions BBQ was kept very busy providing hot food and cold drinks for the many families.
Santa arrived on the Tweed Coast Rural Fire Service truck complete with sirens blaring and lights flashing, much to the delight of hundreds of children who lined up to receive bags of sweets and hugs.
The event culminated in an amazing-fireworks display over the beach presented by All Fired Up Fireworks and sponsored by the revamped Cabarita Beach Hotel.
The Lions Club would like to thank Perry Homes and all local businesses who directly sponsored the event or contributed prizes or vouchers for the giant wheelbarrow full of goodies. John Burke of Cabarita was the lucky winner of the wheelbarrow prize.
The Secretary of the Cabarita Beach Pottsville Beach Lions Club Peter O’Donnell said: “This was a community event run by several groups from our local community to draw families together to celebrate Christmas Cabarita-style and raise some money along the way for volunteer groups”.
“The Lions wish you a Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing everyone at the Australia Day celebrations being organised as a joint venture with Tweed Coast Rotary.”
