Stay safe on the roads and look after your valuables, that is the message from the Tweed Byron Local Area Commander Superintendent Stuart Wilkins.
“I hope Christmas is a fun family time and you enjoy the season,” he said.
However he asked motorists and residents alike to use alcohol responsibly.
He said one of the focuses of the local police over the past 12 months had been the responsible consumption of alcohol in relation to both violence and drink driving.
Superintendent Wilkins said this time of year was about having fun.
He said it was also a time to remember to take good care of your valuables. He said this area was less about violent crime and more about “volume crime” – like thefts from motor vehicles.
“I was parked next to a BMW recently and there sitting on the back seat were three Ipads in clear view just where the kids had left them when they had jumped out of the car,” he said
Superintendent Wilkins said by taking away the opportunity you were a lot less likely to lose your possessions.
