The opening ceremony for the new school facilities at Tweed Heads South Public School last year was a community occasion.
With dancers and a smoking ceremony, welcome to country and musical performances, the school came together to officially open their new hall.
Principal Warren King said the hall might be just bricks and mortar but they had brought with them a sense of belonging.
Member for Richmond Justine Elliot officially opened the new multipurpose hall and refurbished school facilities at Tweed Heads South Public School for which the school received $2,125,000 as part of the Federal Government’s Building the Education Revolution (BER).
Justine congratulated Tweed Heads South Public School on their new facilities and spoke of the benefit to both the school and the local community.
“We have now reached the next exciting phase in Building the Education Revolution,” said Justine.
“It has been fantastic to see the students, teachers, parents, tradespeople and the local community working together to deliver these important projects.”
Following the ceremony the community leaders and invited guests took part in a morning tea – with many of the ingredients for the event coming straight out of the school’s new garden.
