Marty’s got talent

To borrow a phrase from a well-known movie, Open Mic night at Marty’s @ Caba is like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re going to get.
“Blues guitarists, hip hop artists, 12 year old vocalists, retirees, family bands, rock chicks – we’ve had them all at Marty’s,” laughs Dave Murray, host of the Open Mic sessions on Tuesday nights.
“The array of talent never ceases to surprise me!”
Since its humble inception three years ago Marty’s Open Mic Tuesdays have become the mainstay of the pizza and tapas bar, often outdoing the weekend trade.
“There’s such a buzz about it at the moment, groups without bookings being turned away as there’s no room.”
Dave attributes the night’s success to the venue itself.
“Marty’s is such a great place to chill and escape the mainstream. It’s an intimacy that only a small family business can create. Musos are lining up to play here, because they love the vibe.”
Sally Tusa, Dave’s sister, collaborator and hip hop artist, said she eagerly looked forward to the weekly event.
“There’s nothing better for your confidence than singing to a bunch of people who become like your family, everyone’s so supportive.”
