Friends of the Hound to benefit

Locally-based greyhound rescue and rehoming group, Friends of the Hound, have partnered with the newly opened Best Friends Pet SuperCentre at Tweed Heads South to raise further awareness about Greyhounds as pets.
Best Friends Pet SuperCentre store manager David Carter said it was an important cause.
“Our store is not just about selling goods, but helping animals,” he said of their support of the group.
“We are in a position to help Friends of the Hound with the great work they do in rescuing these dogs and finding good homes for them as pets, and it is nice that we can support one of our community organisations.”
Friends of the Hound President, Lisa White, said they are very glad of the support.
“It is often quite difficult for small, rescue groups such as ours, that do not fit into the category of mainstream charities or purposes, to garner sponsorship and assistance,” she said.
“There are around 20,000 greyhounds bred for dog racing in Australia every year and as a result there is a sad mass wastage of this beautiful breed. It’s a difficult and never-ending battle to help these poor dogs. Therefore it is really wonderful to have Best Friends offer their support and we are looking forward to a productive and long-lasting friendship with David and his staff.”
Best Friends will be holding the last of their “grand opening” weekends (and hoping they don’t get flooding rain this time) this weekend which will also raise awareness and money for The Friend of The Hound and another local animal-based group “Story Dogs”.
The event will run over three days and will include a free sausage sizzle and free coffee 7am to 10am, Saturday 11th free sausage sizzle 10am to 2pm; Sunday 12th free sausage sizzle and free coffee 10am to 2pm face painting and lucky door prizes.
