A home track seemed to suit the Tweed Seagulls Little Athletes as they produced a record medal haul at the South Coast Regional Athletics Championships at Walter Peate Oval, Kingscliff at the weekend.
Last weekend at Walter Peate Oval, Kingscliff the Tweed Seagulls Little Athletics Centre hosted the South Coast Regional Athletics Championships.
The track was in immaculate condition due to a combination of nature’s sun as well as many hours of hard work in line marking by President Craig Simpkins and club stalwart Les Geary.
Tweed committee members were a little nervous as it was the first time their centre had hosted these championships, however they were thrilled when event organiser Steve Hansaker from Helensvale gave the ‘thumbs up’ on Sunday evening saying “it was a huge success”.
Sixty-six Tweed competitors qualified for the State championships to be held in Brisbane on the weekend of March 24-25, 2012. These athletes will participate in 142 events.
