Pottsville Beach Sports Club has held a fund-raising benefit to help one of it’s own – Pottville local and long-term club member Terry Cunningham.
Club Chairman of Directors Bill Brodie said it was the least the club could to for the staunch club supporter.
“Terry is a very popular member and has been a stalwart of a number of the sporting sub-clubs that make up the Pottsville Beach Sports Club community, and we are very pleased to be able to assist Terry and his family,” Bill said.
“The event went very well, thanks to all the hard work put in by Kristy Gabriel and her committee of Lysander, Hayden Davies and Terry’s son Ned.
“They canvassed local business houses for support and came up with such an array of great prizes that our fund-raising raffles sold themselves.
“Major sponsors and prizes included Elusive Surf, Evans Head Luxury Cabin accommodation, Billabong surf packs, Pottsville-Bogangar car service and car care kit and were followed by a string of other worthwhile prizes from Pottsville IGA, Cabarita Butchers, Dune Design and Homewares, Pottsville Cellars, Cabarita Hair and Life, Karessa Cafe, Cabarita Beach Hotel, Pottsville Fruit Shop, Aqua Hair, Eatz Cafe, Rasa-lia, Cabarita Bikes, Kartel Coffee, Grants Quality Meats, Lacious Patisserie and Pizza Joint”.
He said proud of the support shown by the community with many substantial cash donations received on the day.
“Pottsville Beach Sports Club sub-clubs contributed too,” he said.
“Pottsville Cricket, Pottsville Fishing, Men’s & Ladies Bowls Clubs, Social Golf Club, Pottsville RSL and Pottsville Pirates Social Bowls made donations while Tweed Coast Tigers AFL provided and manned the Jumping Castle to keep the kids engaged.”
Entertainment was provided by Matt Buggy and Lewis on acoustic and local DJ Si provided music throughout the late afternoon into the evening while a sausage sizzle kept patrons feed.”
“The fund-raising event was a great way of getting behind the Cunninghams and showing what a small community can do when its members work together,” he said.
“Terry and his family thanked all those who contributed and especially Kristy and her committee. It was a great effort all round.”
