Premier spring racing event

The highlight every year for the Armidale Jockey Club’s Spring Carnival is the Armidale Independent Spring Cup, which is being run this Sunday, November 6.
Armidale Jockey Club Secretary, Jim Dedes, is expecting a bumper crowd and some strong entries for the eight races scheduled for the day, with the highlight race the Armidale Independent Spring Cup expecting to draw a strong field, with $80,000 of prize money on offer throughout all eight races.
This year the Armidale Independent Spring Cup race day has been chosen to be part of an exciting  new initiative called ‘TAB Saddle-Up Sundays’ which encourages the local community to get behind and take ownership of their race day.
“Racing is part of the DNA of country NSW. It has been integral to these communities for more than 150 years and Racing NSW intends to ensure that this tradition continues,” said Peter V’landys, Racing NSW’s Chief Executive.
“By introducing an initiative such as TAB Saddle-Up Sundays, we are providing the local race clubs with tools to encourage the local community to have even more ownership of their race day.
“These meetings will also be a destination experience for city people to spend a good weekend racing, whilst also exploring the picturesque NSW countryside.”
To coincide with this initiative, there will be a coupon in this week’s Armidale Independent that you can bring with you this Sunday, and present at the ticket office, that will entitle you to a ‘two for one’ offer on the gate price.
“So far this spring racing season, we have had great crowds,” said Armidale Jockey Club Secretary, Jim Dedes.
“This Sunday will no doubt draw another strong crowd.
“The Armidale Independent Spring Cup is one of the highlights of our racing year.
“The forecast is looking fine and sunny for Sunday and the track is probably the best it has been for a long while.”
Throughout the race day on Sunday, the Northern NSW Classic and Specialist Car Club will have a display of classic cars on show, there will be a jumping castle for the kids and fashions in the field.
So if you are looking for a great day out, then head down to the Armidale Jockey Club this Sunday for the Armidale Independent Spring Cup.
