Council receives grant

Tweed MP Geoff Provest and Minister for the Environment, Robyn Parker announced Tweed Shire Council would receive $100,000 to assist in planning and managing the Tweed Coast.
“Tweed Council will receive $25,000 to update information on coastal hazards in line with predicted sea level rise,” Mr Provest said.
“Council will receive an additional $75,000 to review coastal zone management strategies and action in light of the devastating coastal erosion at Kingscliff over the last two years.
Minister Parker said the funds come from a NSW Government program, the Coastal Management Program, which helps councils prepare plans and implement actions to reduce the impacts of coastal erosion and other coastal hazards.
Ms Parker said 16 projects have been funded under the second round of the 2011-2012 program, with the NSW Government contributing $891,100.
“Most of these grants are for projects in areas where properties and infrastructure are currently subject to high or extreme coastal erosion risk,” Ms Parker said.
The NSW Government’s contribution will be matched by local government.
“Protecting and enhancing the NSW environment is a task for everyone – governments at all levels as well as the community,” Ms Parker said.
“The NSW Government is pleased to support local government to protect the valuable coasts of NSW.”
