This week I’m going to tell you about three awesome sessions at the Gold Coast Film Festival where you can get expert knowledge on screen writing, animation and acting!
Have you heard of Star Trek or Star Wars? Then you know the work of Alan Dean Foster. Alan has produced the novelisations of many Hollywood blockbusters, including Star Wars, the first three Alien films, The Chronicles of Riddick, Star Trek, Terminator: Salvation, and the first two Transformers films. Other works include the story for the first Star Trek movie and his Commonwealth book series, which is considered a cornerstone of science fiction literature. The Alan Dean Foster writing master class is on Friday, April 20.
Trekkies unite! Foster will also host a Q&A at the end of the GCFF’s screening of the original Star Trek movie on 35mm print! The ticket price also gets you into the official Star Trek after party and includes a complimentary drink. Come in costume, you know you want to.
Is anime your thing? Well, hold onto your hat because Masakazu Morita, the voice of lead character Ichigo Kurosaki in Japanese anime series Bleach, and Bleach director Noriyuki Abe will be at this year’s festival. Bleach is one of the most globally popular Japanese mangas (graphic novels) in history, spanning television shows and films (anime), games and merchandise. Over 350 episodes of the show have run since 2004, and over 450 chapters of the manga have been released, selling 75 million copies in Japan alone.You can hear them talk all about it at the anime masterclass on Friday, April 20.
Interested in acting? Don’t miss Shane (pictured above)Rangi’s discussion on acting for motion capture, stunts, fight choreography and delivering the ‘wow factor’ audiences demand in today’s action films. Shane has appeared in many of the biggest films of the last decade including The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia. He will hold a Q&A after the encore screening of the finale of Spartacus, Gods of the Arena in which Shane plays fan favourite gladiator Dagan.
