Road works

Last week I spotted one little paragraph in the local paper, which stated the Tweed Shire Council will not complete anymore of the Kennedy Dr upgrade until after the Kirkwood Rd extension.
What utter mishandling of our tax (rates) money. For starters Kennedy Dr is one project not four as the council now calls it. Stage one was supposed to take 20 weeks not 40 or more. They say Kirkwood Rd. will take 15 months, when it will certainly be double if you go by stage one of Kennedy Dr.
Where are the watchdogs for the gross mismanagement of our councils funds and expenditures? I’m sure the council has ample excuses, but the fact is if they hired contractors such as Abi group or Banora Alliance, Kennedy Dr. would be done completely within 20 or so weeks. Sure on paper it would cost more, but in reality it would certainly be cheaper as the council is simply not up to the task of repairing, or building roads, when it takes them 10 times longer to do so. It is obviously more expensive than hiring contractors to begin with.
Also while we have waited for the Kennedy Dr. upgrade the council seen fit to spend a million or so on the Cudgen Creek walkway at Kingscliff, and now I read they want to build a bicycle path to Murwillumbah. Myself and hopefully others feel the priorities and management of our tax dollars are totally lost with the current tweed shire bureaucracy.
