Big BBQ for kids

The 2012 Lions Biggest BBQ is in full swing, with many Lions Clubs around Australia working together to encourage Australian communities to support the efforts of the Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation (ALCCRF) achieve its vision of 100% survival for kids with cancer.
Here on the Tweed it’s no different with our local groups getting right in behind the cause.
“It never ceases to amaze me what Aussies can do when they work together” ALCCRF Trustee Jim Ede said.
“Who would have thought the good old Aussie Barbie could have been used to help Lions raise over $4.5 million for childhood cancer research. Well that’s what we have done but the job’s not over.
“More than 600 Australian kids are diagnosed every year with various forms of childhood cancer and unfortunately we are still seeing around three children dying every week.
“Many of the 1,400 Lions Australia Clubs will hold BBQs during April to raise funds for medical research into the causes and prevention of, and to find a cure for, childhood cancer. Why Lions have been passionately supporting childhood cancer research since 1996 is very simple “we believe every child deserves the chance at a healthy life” Jim Ede said.
The Cabarita Beach Pottsville Beach Lions Club in conjunction with the Leos Club are holding their Biggest BBQ and a Teddy Bear’s picnic, at Ambrose Brown Park in Pottsville on Sunday, April 29 from 10am – 2pm.
There will be teddy bear judging, colouring, face painting, storytelling and a teddy bear raffle. So bring your picnic rug, teddy bear and help raise funds for childhood cancer research.
