Strongest-possible defence of Australia

Although knowing very well the fearsome superiority of nuclear- powered over diesel-powered submarines, the Green Labor government may decide to replace the fault-ridden Collins diesel subs with – surprise – twelve new Collins diesel submarines (The Australian, December 26, front page). Good old diesel, obsolete from the start!
Perhaps lease American nuclear attack submarines? No.  Buy ready-to-go European nuclear subs at half the price of the new Collins model?
No. Take years and years to build the new Collins even though out- dated from the start? Certainly!
Thus, depressingly, the Green peaceniks have won the day: the Greens maintain Australia’s possessing nuclear submarines would offend Red China, Indonesia, Russia; both Kevin Rudd (our yappy Foreign Minister) and Stephen Runaway Smith (our equally yappy Defence Minister) feel it better to give in to the Greens’ socialist ratbaggery than insist that nuclear submarine power is far superior to underwater diesel clunkers.
Come on Navy, speak up for nuclear powered submarines! Speak up for the strongest-possible defence of Australia!

Dr Paul Fidlon,
Armidale
