Gold Coast-based band Danger At The Door blew the judges and big crowd away to take the third Tweed Battle of the Band last week at the Tweed Heads Civic Centre.
The group, who had won through from heat one, walked away with the $2000 winner’s cheque after a dynamic performance on Friday night in front of a crowd of more than 100 punters.
They beat a tough challenge from Tweed’s Benny P who took the $1000 second prize with duo Cecilia and Gabriel Brandolini who finished third and picked up $500 for their trouble.
This was the third time the event, organised as part of Youth Week, had been held and already it is proving an important springboard for young bands. Last year’s second-placed band Double Lined Minority have gone on to perform at The Big Day Out and on Youth radio station Triple J.
Friday night’s final, the culmination of three weeks of competition, was kicked off in fine style by legendary local Gold Coast performers Mason Rack.
