Big weekend of pop culture on Coast

Aliens, movie stars and Jabbawockeez…. oh my, the Gold Coast was a mecca for all things weird, wonderful and way-out over the weekend!
At Jupiters Theatre and Casino, Premier Campbell Newman and Jupiters acting managing director Craig Peachey opened the venue’s new $20 million theatre and introduced ‘Jabbawockeez’ its first resident stage show.
Next door at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, there was another first with the Gold Coast’s Supanova Popular Culture Expo taking up residence. More than 20,000 sci-fi fans (many of them in costume) flocked to the two-day event which organisers hailed as a huge success. Plans are already underway for next year’s expo.
Meanwhile up the road at the cinemas at Australia Fair the Gold Coast Film Festival attracted large crowds of its own. The festival, usually held in November each year, was moved forward to coincide with Supanova and allow some of the guests, including Harry Potter Stars Oliver and James Phelps, to attend both.
