Doctor hard to beat

Tweed Heads Hospital Emergency doctor Ben Walters proved hard to beat taking out the final race of the Kingscliff Turbine Swim Run Series at Kingscliff at the weekend.
Ben, from Byron, had just come off call at the Tweed Hospital and decided to take part in the event.
Forty swimmers took to the Cudgen Creek for the race, which was the third in the fund-raising series for Cudgen Headlands Surf Life Saving Club. The event was to be held earlier in the year but bad weather forced its postponement.
Ben, who said he was coach of the Tweed Heads Emergency Fitness group, came straight off call to compete.
He said he and the group were trying to set an example for the community.
“And it was a lot of fun,” he said of the race.
The event involved a 350 flat water swim in Cudgen Creek followed by a 4km run.
Organiser Cheryl Cain said the three-event series would be back next year.
She said it had been well received and she expected it to continue to grow and become a major fundraising event for the Cudgen Club.
