African fashion parade fundraiser for Ethiopian Hospital

Young African-Australian women showed off their hairstyles and fashions for the annual fundraiser for the Hospital by the River in Ethiopia held at the Guide Hall in Armidale.
This was the 4th Annual African Christmas Lunch organised by local nurses Lisa Thunstrom and Alex Thompson. With the support of Armidale Sanctuary Humanitarian Settlement, the African Fashion Parade showcased vibrant dresses, immaculate African dressmaking and hairstyles by one of Armidale’s newest businesses: Marikan Hair Art & African Goods.
Proprietor Malicia Sims is an expert at hair braiding, human hair extensions, dreadlocks and cornrows. She invites people to call by for a chat at 236a Beardy Street (on the Beardy Street side of the Mun Hing building) to discuss the possibilities for their hair or to look at the goods for sale.
Santa Claus paid a visit to the delight of the children present and the delicious lunch featured many African dishes.
It’s not too late to donate to the Hospital by the River. The money is used for fistula repair operations for women. The hospital was established more than 50 years ago by Australian husband and wife team, Doctors Reg and Catherine Hamlin. Sadly, because of damage done due to childbirth at a very young age, the need for these operations still exists. Contact Lisa on
