Tweed Heads Memorial Gardens and White Lady Funerals Tweed will host a “Forget-Me-Not” themed Mother’s Day Memorial Service in the Garden Chapel at 10am on Mother’s Day.
The annual service aims to support individuals and families in the local community whose mother, grandmother or mother figure is no longer with them, by providing a serene environment in which they can remember and pay tribute to their loved one.
“Mother’s Day can very difficult for families whose mother or grandmother has passed away, especially when the loss is a recent one,” Tweed Heads Memorial Gardens location manager Gaylene Adam said.
“Although families can’t communicate directly with a beloved mother or grandmother who has passed away, in addition to attending our Mother’s Day Memorial Service, many people find comfort in leaving floral tributes at a grave or memorial.
“Some even make use of floriography – the language of flowers – to communicate a special message. White roses for eternal love, bellflowers which mean ‘thinking of you’ or daisies which symbolise faith and purity. Most people are familiar with rosemary or forget-me-nots for remembrance, but there are also violets which represent faithfulness, pink roses for gratitude and daffodils which signify respect.”
This year, Tweed Heads Memorial Gardens will present each family with a pink or white carnation, symbolising innocence, purity and a mother’s love.
Celebrant Tony McLeod will direct the formal elements of the Mother’s Day Memorial Service which will include a poetry recitation – Forget Me Not – and the reading of an honour roll featuring the names of mothers who have passed away. Attendees will also be given the opportunity to write a message to their loved one during a candlelight vigil.
Complimentary refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the service. Tweed Heads Memorial Gardens is located on Sunshine Avenue, Tweed Heads.
Tweed Heads Memorial Gardens has alerted council to the time of the service and anticipates that the disruption caused by the ongoing roadworks at the gardens’ entrance will be minimal. Plenty of free parking is available on site.
