Residents of Cabarita Beach/Bogangar turned out in force to enjoy a perfect morning on the village green as the first of two community planning workshops was held at Cabarita Beach on Sunday.
Caba Creative showcased live music, art and yoga displays, while the Community Garden Group displayed produce and kept the many children happy with face painting, and the surf club served up a free sausage sizzle.
More than 200 residents were keen to discuss and write up their ideas for future community projects, with 75 signing up as interested in participating in a second workshop to vote on project ideas and form work groups to implement the most popular and viable of those ideas.
Suggestions from previous workshops such as walking tracks, cycling tracks, environmental and educational facilities were once again strongly supported, along with many other suggestions, including ones for a community and youth centre, a men’s shed and bigger, better skatepark.
Chairman of the Cabarita Beach/Bogangar Community and Economic Development Committee, Mr Nick Aldridge, said there was a lovely community feel to the day and he was pleased with the enthusiastic response.
The workshops are being held as part of the Community Projects Plan, an initiative of Cabarita Beach/Bogangar Community and Economic Development Committee, with support from Tweed Shire Council and the Department of Trade and Industry.
The second workshop, where residents will vote on ideas and form work groups, will be held on Monday, May 21 from 6-9pm at Cabarita Beach Bowls and Sports Club. Anyone interested in coming along will be welcomed.
