The Lions Club of Terranora Lakes has given Tweed District Rescue Squad 11,000 reasons to smile. The club presented a cheque for $11,0000 to Tweed District Rescue Squad to buy four portable deflibrillators to be carried in the Rescue Squad Vehicles.
Lion President Peter Maroney, in making the presentation, commented on the many hours of work that the members had put in, raising the money and acknowledged the support from the local community who had purchased from the regular Bunnings Sausage Sizzle, Lions Christmas Cakes, Lions Mints and various raffles conducted by the club.
“Without the support of the local community it would not be possible to aid community organisations such as the Tweed District Rescue Squad,” he said. “The Lions Club of Terranora Lakes has a long history of supporting the Rescue squad from its inception many years ago, with the club purchasing the first jaws of life for the then fledging Kingscliff Rescue Squad.”
Paul Hyland, representing the Rescue Squad, gave the Lions members an overview of the current operation of the Squad and explained how the provision of a defibrillator in each vehicle will enable faster response times and, being portable, can be carried into remote and restricted areas to reach the patients.
Meanwhile, the club was pleased to induct two new members at their recent meeting.
On behalf of the members, President Lion Peter Maroney welcomed into the club Will Davey and Rob McKinnon who will be able to assist the club in its endeavours to support the needs of the local community.
Both have skills that will be able to be put to good use.
The new members were inducted into the club by District Membership Officer Jennifer Perkins, who travelled from Lismore to perform the ceremony.
