The successful HiCUB project has unfortunately come to an end, and to celebrate The Black Gully Music Festival is being held this Saturday, February 11 between 1pm and 8pm at the stage area behind NERAM in Kentucky Street Armidale.
“This stage area was once a popular music venue and we are thrilled to be able to help rejuvenate a great community location,” Community Co-ordinator for the project Brenda Shepherd said. A Marquee will shelter the musicians and there will also be some cover for the audience. Patrons are invited to bring picnic rugs for comfort.
Local bands, the Al Heeney Rhythm & Blues Experience- a collection of Armidale’s best-known musicians with a body of work encompassing classic through to contemporary, the Bopcatz!, a swinging rockabilly band featuring the amazing vocal talents of Carol Elder, backed by a trio of extremely talented musicians, Bez Imena, a middle-eastern flavoured group specialising in unusual instruments and timings, and Maracuja, a smooth sultry South American sound will all entertain throughout the day. Guyra music student Georgia Smith will be playing and singing some of her own compositions. There will be other singer-songwriters performing during the day. So come along and enjoy a relaxing afternoon.
There will be a fabulous display in the Mazda Room at NERAM of a lot of the works such as the Apsley River project, Uralla’s Alma Park, Armidale’s Showcase plantings as well as Guyra’s TSR projects but also the community events such as SLEX.
The amount of on-ground work achieved in the last few months has been phenomenal with contributions by business houses, clubs, Landcare groups, “Friends of NERAM’, Jobs Australia, school students, councils and individuals. Every town has evidence of environmental works.
Screenings of the documentary film produced by Social Ventures Media, which charts the progress of the project, the multitude of people involved, the amazing volunteers and the whole variety of works carried out will run through the afternoon and evening.
There will be entertainment for the kids with the show by The New Funny Green Smelly Things at 3pm, face painting, a jumping castle and fairy floss.
There will be food and beverages for sale and “neram harvest’ café will be open.
The HiCUB project has been funded through the NSW Government’s Environmental Trust.
