June is Cooly Rocks On and Greenback Taylor Fishing Competition time in the Tweed and Tweed Shire Council are joining in the fun, welcoming all visitors who have travelled from near and far to attend these two popular events.
‘Cooly Rocks On’ is held in Coolangatta and Tweed Heads while the ‘Greenback Fishing Competition’ is held at Bogangar/Cabarita Beach and with the two events attracting thousands of visitors, the shire will be filled to the brim.
Tweed Mayor Councillor Barry Longland welcomed visitors to the Tweed for the events, which he said showcase the best the region has to offer.
“These two events are eagerly anticipated every year for locals and visitors alike and for very good reason,” Councillor Longland said.
“The warm hospitality and excellent organisation set against the natural beauty of our shire means both events continue to grow year after year.
“I would like to wish everyone, especially our visitors, a wonderful, safe weekend.”
Cooly Rocks On offers a wide variety of Rock ‘n ‘ Roll events including live bands, displays of rare ‘50s and ‘60s automobiles, a nostalgia street parade and many other happenings situated at Marine Parade in Coolangatta and Jack Evans Boat Harbour in Tweed Heads.
Classic car cruises and special features such as dance workshops are also on the agenda and for those wishing to practice their latest moves and dance the night away hotels, clubs and pubs in the area will offer a large array of rockabilly and rock ‘n ‘roll music events over the entire festival period.
To accommodate the event, certain roads in the area will be closed for short periods of time and Tweed Shire Council advises visitors and locals alike to comply with parking requirements and regulatory signage located throughout the shire.
Visitors who have arrived to attend or take part in the annual Greenback Fishing Competition at Cabarita may face similar difficulties with parking but are reminded to comply with parking requirements and signage.
Additional rangers, as requested by the public, are working over the long weekend to facilitate both events and manage the requirements of the large influx of visitors expected to enjoy the festivities.
