Service goes online to make fundraising easier

Their pilots and crew become heroes every time they step foot into
the helicopter.
But now Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter is on the look-out for community ‘helicopter heroes’ of a different kind throughout
the region.
The rescue helicopter is asking the community to show their support by turning an event, challenge or momentous occasion into an online fundraising opportunity for
the service.
‘Helicopter heroes’ help the pilots and crew continue to fly their life-saving missions by fundraising ‘online’ via a special website ‘www.everydayhero.com.au’.
“We are fortunate to have many passionate supporters who wish to raise funds for us in so many ways. All we’ve done is just make it a lot simpler. People can accept donations online,” said the rescue helicopter’s General Manager Kris Beavis.
Helicopter heroes are able to build their own web page in minutes and email their unique link to their friends and family to ask
for support.
“Anyone can be a helicopter hero. Some heroes run marathons and triathlons, some cycle, swim, walk and climb mountains. They raise funds by asking their friends and family to support them in
their quest.”
Like 40-year-old Russ Holland (from Coffs Harbour – pictured) who is going to climb Mt Kilimanjaro next year to raise funds for the rescue helicopter. His aim is to raise $15,000 which will enable the service to purchase a pair of night vision goggles.
“Some helicopter heroes want to quit a habit or lose weight, while others choose to share their celebration (like a birthday, wedding, engagement or anniversary) with us by asking friends and family to donate online to the rescue helicopter instead of giving gifts,” said Mr. Beavis.
“Our fundraising is changing. It’s getting harder and harder to fundraise, so anything like this, which makes fundraising easier (and fun) from the community’s perspective, is a bonus.
“People are busy, and don’t have time to chase up money, handle cash or deposit cheques into the bank. Everyday Hero passes all donations on to the rescue helicopter and arranges receipts.”
Mr Beavis urged people to start building their fundraising page now, and help the rescue helicopter continue to save lives throughout our community.
