Council catch-up takes a break

The Tweed Shire Council’s Councillors’ Community Catch-up program will take an extended break now, following last week’s event at Murwillumbah.
The Catch-ups have been held quarterly since September, at markets throughout the Tweed, to make it easier for residents to raise concerns and get to know their elected members.
The forums will take an extended break during the local government election campaign period and will return at the Uki Markets on November 18.
Last week’s event saw small business development, coastal flooding and wakeboarding amongst the issues raised by residents.
More than 50 members of the community dropped into the stall, staged at the Murwillumbah Community Markets to give residents a chance to raise any Council-related issues they chose.
Many visitors to the stall also took the opportunity to meeting Council’s new General Manager, David Keenan, who attended the Catch-up, along with several of the Tweed’s elected members.
They included the Mayor of Tweed, Councillor Barry Longland, who said potholes and park maintenance were again regular topics at the stall.
“However, the Catch-ups continue to raise a wide spectrum of ideas and concerns,” Cr Longland said.
“They are generating some really positive discussions between the councillors and members of the community – and clarifying a number of issues for both parties.”
